GATE 2020: Exam Date, pattern ,Syllabus, Papers and Preparation

About GATE 2020

GATE 2020 will be organized by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi in online mode tentatively on February month. GATE 2020 will be conducted in 24 papers including statistics which was introduced in 2019. The entrance exam is a computer based one held in two sessions per day. Application form of GATE 2020 will be available tentatively from September 1, 2019 while admit card will be released tentatively in December.

The exam will be conducted on 24 subjects including Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Architecture and Planning, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering among other subjects. A candidate is allowed to appear in only one paper in any one session.

GATE 2020: Paper pattern

The GATE 2020 will be a computer-based multiple-choice question or MCQ-based exam. Candidates will have to answer 65 questions for a total of 100 marks within three-hours’ time. The exam consists of two sections. The paper will contain questions on general aptitude (15 marks), engineering mathematics (10-13 marks) and core engineering area of the candidate.

GATE 2020: Eligibility

The students who shall appear for GATE 2020 Exam must first check the eligibility criteria for the exam. It is important to do so before going to the application form part. It is so because if the candidate applies for the exam without checking the criteria, the application is liable to be rejected. The eligibility criteria of GATE 2020 is as follows:

Age Limit- Candidates should note that there is no age limit for the exam. You can appear for the exam as many times as you wish to apply.

Based on GATE 2020 score students will be eligible for admission to IISc, and IITs at master’s and doctoral level programmes. Candidates who qualify GATE are also eligible to apply for government jobs.

GATE 2020 Exam Pattern

The GATE 2020 Exam shall consist of two types of questions:

1. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
2. Numerical Answer Type (NAT)

In the first part, the questions will be objective in nature. Each question will have 4 options as the answer. The candidate has to choose the correct answer out of all the options given. If the candidate marks the wrong answer, then the marks will be deducted. The marking scheme has been given for the same.

For the second type of questions, the students have to type in the answers using the virtual keypad available on the screen. Facility of on-screen calculator shall also be provided for the students.
